Anna dedicated her life to education and community service.

Strong – Anna Catherine Hodgkins (née Giles), also known as Anna Hutchinson, passed away on August 15, 2026, in Strong, Maine, at the age of 99.

Born on December 11, 1926, in Skowhegan, Maine, Anna dedicated her life to education and community service. She earned a master’s degree in education and spent many years shaping young minds as a junior high and preschool teacher. Anna also owned and operated a preschool and Lews’ Upholstery.

She was a woman of many passions, including crafting, card making, Swedish weaving, traveling, and teaching Vacation Bible School. She was known for her ability to turn strangers into friends; she loved helping others but in ways that gave them a purpose and dignity. Anna loved experimenting with cooking, it didn’t always turn out how she wanted but her apple pies were always perfect. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and delighted in getting to spend her later years surrounded by her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Eisen; her parents, Melissa and Guy Giles; her sisters, Janice Giles, Joyce Kent, and Geraldine Keast; and her husbands, Waldo Hutchinson and Raymond Hodgkins.

Anna is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Emery and husband David, Sarah Snyder and husband Richard; and son-in-law, Ken Eisen. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Tyler, Amber (Dean, Miles (Kelsey), Kali (Jacob), Colby, Tucker, Paul, Thomas, David, Andrew and Annamari; as well as her great-grandchildren, Bethany, Jax, Sage, Emmersyn, Blake, Asher and Baby Richards.

Anna was a lifelong member of the Fairfield Church of Nazarene, where her funeral will be held on October 11, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
