Obituary

Annette Vose Brackett 1925 - 2024 It is with sadness and gratitude that the family of Annette Vose Brackett announces that she passed away on July 23, 2024, at the age of 99 ½ years, just as she wished -- peacefully, at home, with her loved ones close by. She and her twin sister Celia were born at home in Kingfield on January 7, 1925, to G. Dane and Josephine Thompson Vose. A graduate of Farmington High School in 1942, she attended Farmington Normal School. Annette married C. Thomas Brackett of Industry on June 3, 1947. They settled in Farmington to raise children and cattle. They lived for over 20 years on the farm that they purchased on Porter Hill Road. During that time, she worked at Knowlton McLeary Printing in Farmington as a proofreader, composer, and letterpress operator, often volunteering on their parade float. When she retired, she and Tom moved into a log cabin that they built themselves on the Porter Hill property. Annette loved to cook. She was known and appreciated for her Sunday dinners, beef stew, homemade biscuits and bread, root beer, and especially for her cinnamon rolls. She loved to garden, read, and do crossword puzzles. She was committed to keeping fit and could still do a shoulder stand when she was in her 80's. She took up rug hooking after she retired, and their home is decorated with many of her beautiful pieces. In her early years, she was a bit of an adventurer, taking flying lessons and becoming the first woman in Franklin County to pilot an airplane on a solo flight. Annette is survived by her husband of 77 years, C. Thomas (Tom) Brackett; her children Jeff Brackett (Janet) of New Sharon; Dan Brackett of San Diego; Peggy Brackett of Farmington; Scott Brackett (Cindy Heath) of Temple; and Susan Brackett (David Wooley) of Farmington; her grandchildren, Tracy Brackett of New Sharon, Paul Brackett of Lincoln, and Jason Kingsley (Jodi) of Chicago; her great-granddaughter Samantha Jewell of New Sharon, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Norma Elizabeth Vose, brother George Vose (Virginia), brother Marshall Vose (Marian), her twin sister Celia Sawtelle (Cecil), two daughters Judith Elaine and Nancy Ann Brackett, great grandson, Levi Jewell, and brother-in-law Lloyd E. "Joe" Brackett (Evelyn). The family is very grateful to the staff at Franklin Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and extends their deep appreciation to Emily Franson Jones for her help in allowing Annette to spend her final time at home. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In remembrance of Annette (Tom's bride, and our Mom/Nana), go for a walk or feed the birds. If desired, charitable donations may be made to the Franklin County Animal Shelter (https://fcanimalshelter.org/) or to your favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
