Farmington - Bruce Edward McCarthy passed away on September 13, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born on July 31, 1950, in Milford, Massachusetts; Bruce lived his life with quiet strength, humility, humor, and an unwavering willingness to help others. A proud military veteran, his service to his country was an important part of who he was and remained a source of great pride throughout his life.

Bruce was a gentle and soft-spoken man, but those who knew him also knew his wonderful sense of humor. He was a natural comedian who could make people laugh without ever needing to be the loudest person in the room. Above all, he was selfless. He was the kind of man who gave of himself freely and quietly, often putting the needs of others before his own.

Bruce also loved the freedom of the open road and riding his motorcycle, a pastime that brought him great joy over the years.

He spent much of his career in construction, beginning as a skilled carpenter and later serving in leadership roles as a superintendent and general manager for a major construction company. His work reflected many of the qualities that defined him personally: patience, craftsmanship, dependability, and a strong work ethic.

The last several years of Bruce’s life were spent at the Woodlands of Farmington in Maine, where compassionate caregivers became friends and formed genuine bonds with him. His family will forever be grateful to the staff who cared for him, laughed with him, and surrounded him with kindness, companionship, and love.

Bruce was a Christian, and his faith was an important part of his life. Those who preceded Bruce in death were surely lined up to greet him in Heaven, among them his parents, June and John McCarthy; his wife, Barbara; his grandparents; his Uncle Jake and Aunt Gail; his numerous late relatives, and the many friends he made throughout his life who went before him.

His greatest legacy, however, is the family he leaves behind. Bruce’s life and memory will continue through his children, Jennifer McCarthy, Eric McCarthy, and Sheila McCarthy; his grandchildren, Brandon Cross, Taylor Willingham, Maygen Andrews, Renee Starner, Erin Frye, Ryan McCarthy, Reese Hsu, and Calvin Hsu; and his five great-grandchildren. Bruce is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen Jansen, Brian McCarthy, Karen Cloherty, and Kerrie Chavez, as well as over thirteen nieces and nephews who will carry their own memories of Bruce with them.

Bruce will be remembered not simply for what he accomplished, but for the way he moved through the world: gently, quietly, with humor, kindness, faith, and a selfless heart. His was not a life that needed to be loud to leave an impact.

He was deeply loved, and his legacy will live on through the generations of family who carry his memory forward.
