Obituary

Wilton - On October 17, 2026, Cleon Milford Fletcher Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior. Cleon was born on September 23, 1927, the son of Maurice and Susie (Hammond) Fletcher. He was raised in Wilton, ME. by the shores of Wilson Lake and attended Wilton schools.

At the age of 16, Cleon enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines and would travel across the Atlantic to supply bulk cargo to allied countries during WWII. (Notably the SS Jagger Seam Liberty Ship classified as an EC2 AW1 type Collier) At the age of 17 he would join the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving until 1945. After returning from the military, Cleon married Emily Daley and together with two sons, they resided in Dixfield. (their first son passed away in infancy)

In 1961, Cleon married Luralyn Collins. They resided in East Wilton where he and his dear Uncle Johnny would raise steers and work together making yokes. It was during this period he would greet and welcome into this world, his only daughter and youngest son.

Cleon was employed in Rumford for 38 years at the Oxford Paper Company, eventually becoming Boise Cascade Company, where he retired at the age of 62.

After retiring, he and late wife, Althea (Robinson) Fletcher would travel to fairs showing their steers. They won many ribbons. In 2002 and 2003 they received the distinction of having the best team on the grounds at the Fryeburg Fair. (Jack & Jock). Cleon was named teamster of the year in 2003. Cleon and Althea were long standing members of the Jay Baptist Church where they were saved and baptized in 2001.

Seven years ago, Cleon and Emily reunited and remarried and were grateful to spend these last years together attending church, seeing family and friends, and enjoying wildlife from their deck while watching over each other.

Cleon is predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Susie Fletcher; two sisters, Maylene Collins (Stanton) and Madelene Cruz; as well as late wife, Althea Fletcher; stepson, Clinton Robinson; an infant son; and his special uncle, John Townsend.
