Obituary

Farmington - Daniel George Gazette, known lovingly to many as Danny, was born on July 7, 1947, in Putnam, Connecticut, and passed away peacefully at the Bangor Veterans Home on March 23, 2026. Danny made his home for many decades in Farmington, Maine, where his warmth, creativity, and compassion left a lasting mark on the community he treasured. In 1973, Danny met Jared Platt, the love of his life. For 43 years, they shared a life full of travel, dedicated efforts supporting Russian orphans with disabilities through Diema's Dream Foundation, and enduring joy in their companionship. Danny dedicated many of his career years to the Farmington school system, serving as Assistant to the Superintendent of RSU 9 until his retirement. In his administrative role, he was known for his professionalism, attention to detail, and the kindness with which he supported staff, students, and families. His work helped keep the district running smoothly and reflected his deep belief in the importance of education and community service. A strong advocate for equal rights, Danny gave generously of his time and resources to causes that promoted fairness, dignity, and inclusion. He was a source of light and calm for many—always ready with a listening ear, a steady hand, and a warm smile. Outside of work, Danny's creativity flourished. An avid crocheter and quilter, he poured love and care into every stitch, creating beautiful, comforting pieces that brightened the lives of those around him. His artistry, compassion, and sense of humor made him a cherished friend and companion to many in the Farmington community and beyond. Danny was predeceased by his beloved husband, Jarad Platt. He is survived by his sister, Linda, and brother-in-law, Francis Marcoux, of Douglas, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Darlene Platt of Mystic, CT; nephews, Nicholas, Matthew, and Ryan Marcoux, and their spouses; niece, Melissa Williams and her spouse; stepson, Craig Platt; and four grandnephews, five grandnieces and a large extended family. He is also lovingly remembered by his chosen family—Carrie McFadden and her children and their spouses, Rowan and Colleen, and Emery and Ruth—as well as numerous dear friends who enriched his life and were enriched by his presence. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 612 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Danny's memory to Equality Maine's Network for Older Adults at Equality Maine Foundation, PO Box 1951, Portland, ME 04104.
