Obituary

Dennis P. Presby, 82, of Avon, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 5th, 2025. Dennis was born on June 8th,1943, in Strong, Maine to Merton and Rowena (Pillsbury) Presby. Dennis was educated in the schools of Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School. After graduating he went on to serve in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood Texas, from there he went on to Korea. Dennis earned the rank of SP5-E5 (Sargent) he earned the National Defense Medal-Expert Rifleman. During his time in the Army, he drove bulldozer, D-8 as he liked to call it. He was honorably discharged in 1970 with profound hearing loss. Dennis went on to work for H.E. Sargent Corp, where he also drove bulldozers. He also worked for M&H Construction and George Berry and Son, working alongside his pal, Eric. On July 20th,1996 Dennis married his best friend Brenda Haines, together they made their life in Phillps and Avon where they raised their 3 daughters: Lori, Shellie and Kim. Dennis was a loving husband and Father he was also a devoted Grandfather and Great Grampa. He loved spending time with his family. He was always there with a helping hand, a hug, and usually a tear or two when they were leaving. Dennis was an all-around handyman, willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He was a dedicated fisherman and hunter. He also loved to pan for Gold and go to the movies with his grandson, Michael. He loved trips to the ocean to eat lobster fresh off the boat with his friends, Willie and Juanita. Dennis was a very proud member of the NRA, The Veterans Association, and the Association of Gold Panners. He was a past member of the North Franklin Snowmobile Club, where he served as president and trail master, spending many hours on the trails maintaining them for a smooth ride. He was also a member of the Mt. View Bible Church in New Vineyard. Dennis enjoyed attending church every Sunday and on Tuesdays with his friend, Art Potter. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed and the truly wonderful person that he was. He was loved by all that knew him, and a true friend to all. There will forever be a part of us that is missing. Dennis is survived by his wife of 29 years Brenda; his daughters Lori (Dan) Searles, Shellie (Craig) Presby, Kimberly (Shawn) Haines; his grandchildren, Christopher (Kristine) Haines, Michael Haines, Megan (Eben) Smith, Chelsey Carlton, Alex Ellis, Catherine (Jake) Merithew, and Nicholas (Kaleigh) Berry; and the loves of his life his Great Grandchildren, Greyson, Wyatt, Jasper, Paisleigh, Myles, Eric and Blakeleigh. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Cecil) Leavitt, sister-in-law Linda Searles and brother-in-law Michael (Alison) Haines, nieces, nephews and cousins. Dennis was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws Arthur and Marion Haines. He was also predeceased by his brothers Conley, Hayden and Billy Presby. There will be a gathering at Dennis's house at 987 Rangeley Road in Avon on August 16th at two o'clock to celebrate the life of Dennis.
