Obituary

Farmington - Durrell "Jack" Keith Jackson (76), passed away on the evening of Thursday, August 1st, 2024, after a short and courageous battle against small cell lung cancer. Jack was born on November 18th, 1947, in South Kingstown, RI., welcomed by his parents Harold and Lillian (Knight) Jackson and his sister Virginia "Ginny". After graduating high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Army. Serving our country as an Aviation Specialist, while being deployed in Vietnam, Jack was a recipient of the Air Medal and many others. After his service, Jack spent some time in both California and Georgia before returning home to Rhode Island. In September of 2022 Jack was invited to go on an Honor Flight for veterans to Washington, D.C. While working as a welder in 1975, Jack had the pleasure to meet the woman who he would often refer to as "My One and Only" Joyce Savage and embarked on his journey to help her raise her 4 children and become a family. The couple tied the knot on November 30, 1984. During their near 50-year romance, they were able to reside in Rhode Island and Georgia before Joyce was able to talk him into returning her home to Maine in 1984, where they spent most of their years together watching their family grow. His love for traveling didn't stop there, Jack took up a career as an over-the-road truck driver and was often accompanied by Joyce, taking her along to see places she had wanted to go to. Jack had many other interests and hobbies to keep him busy after retiring, he enjoyed gardening, building canoes, a passion and love for music, his favorite sci-fy shows, he could be often found hiding in "The Swamp" or sitting around a fire pit and was famous for telling everyone to "pay attention." Jack and Joyce spent the last 3 years residing in Florida where he took pride in restoring his 1966 Barracuda, his ultimate dream car and winning a great number of trophies at car shows. Shortly after Jack's diagnosis in March 2024, they returned home to Maine. Jack is survived by his "One and Only" wife, Joyce of Farmington; his sister, Ginny (Jackson) and her husband, Sam Parks of North Carolina; his children, Mike Chapman and his partner, Jennifer of Farmington, Cathy Jo and her husband, Billy Monahan of Farmington, and Kristen and her husband, Dana Perkins of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Brian Dunn and his fiancé, Maria of Livermore Falls, Josh and his wife, Ky Ross of Augusta, Tia Dunn of New Sharon, Ashleigh and her husband, Chris Benner of Brooks, Dustin and his wife, Logan Chapman of Michigan, Samantha Chapman of Massachusetts, Lloyd Sweetser and his partner, Autumn of Dixfield, Zak Cole and his partner Nicole of Farmington, Keith Chapman of Farmington and Hannah Chapman of Farmington; along with many nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, and a couple great great-grandchildren.
