New Sharon – Edith “Edie” Regina Manter, age 83, passed away on July 31, 2026. Edie was born in Chico CA on June 10, 1943, the daughter of Ralph Gatchell and Madeline (Merrill) Gatchell. Once she moved to Maine, she attended schools in Stratton and graduated from Stratton High School, the class of 1961. After high school Edie joined the workforce, working at Maine Dowel Company in Farmington. Then she worked for Gray Ford, Charlies Ford, and Farmington Ford, until her retirement.

On April 11, 1987, Edie married Peter C. Manter. She loved to go camping with Peter at Natanis Point Campground in Coburn Gore Maine. She loved to garden, attend church suppers in New Sharon and she was a member of the New Sharon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Edie was known best for her contagious smile which will forever be remembered.

Edie is predeceased by her husband, Peter C. Manter; her parents, Ralph Gatchell and Madeline (Merrill) Gatchell and her nephew, Martin D. Bolduc. She leaves behind her children, Crystal (Jones) Gregor and husband, Darrel, Kenneth Jones, and Sue (Manter) King and husband, Mark; her sister, Elaine Currie; her brother, Merrill Gatchell and wife, Lucille; her grandchildren, Dylan Hebert and fiancé, Andrea Flaherty, Cassaundra Harmatys, and Adam King; her great grandchildren, Lexus, Thayer, Dylan and Isla Hebert. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

There will be no services at this time.
