Obituary

Phillips – Florence "Nana" Susan Haines, age 80, passed away on January 1, 2025, in her home in Phillips Maine. Born on October 17, 1944, in Rangeley Maine, the daughter of Donald Haines and Hester (Anderson) Haines. Florence attended Rangeley High School, worked for 22 years at J.L. Coombs Shoe Shop, then worked a few years for Franklin Shoe. Florence "Wink" to some in her younger years, was a homemaker who cared deeply for her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered always for her "famous Sunday morning breakfast". She loved being with family, spending time outdoors and having cookouts. Florence spent summers for twenty plus years, camping out at Dummers Beach in Weld. Another favorite camping spot was the south branch of The Dead River in Dallas Plantation. The last 5 years she camped, she found a lovely spot on the Sandy River in Phillips. Florence loved cats and kittens; she had a collection of feline keepsakes. She also enjoyed crocheting "bed pillow dolls" and loved the time spent having coffee with her cousin Brenda. Florence "Nana" leaves behind her companion of 56 years, Lawrence "Big John Pinkham"; sons, Donald Haines and companion Lisa Bubier of Phillips and John Haines and wife Mindy of Phillips; Step-son's, Rodney Pinkham and wife Diane of North Anson and Lawrence Pinkham Jr and companion Lisa McSharry of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers, Robert Haines and Cathy of Salem, and Jerry Haines of Avon; granddaughters, Kayla Haines of Rangeley and Cassidy Haines of Phillips; grandson's, Dalton Gordon of Phillips and Kirk Haines of Avon; step-grandchildren, RJ Pinkham of Massachusetts, Nicki Arriaga of Omaha Nebraska, and Halle Pinkham of Omaha; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her much-loved border collie, Lady. Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Hester Haines, and her brothers, Guy Haines and William Haines. The family would like to thank Andwell staff for their guidance in the care of Nana. Florence will be laid to rest later this spring at Pinkham Hill Cemetery.
