New Sharon – Gerald H. Durrell “Jerry, JD, Hank Bird”, 75, passed away December 22, 2024, at the Pierce House in Farmington, with loving family by his side. He was born in Farmington on September 28, 1949, the son of Loren W. and Eldora T. (Thomas) Durrell. Jerry grew up in Farmington and received his education in local schools, graduating from Farmington High School. He worked at Farmington Shoe for many years and eventually worked at UMF until his recent retirement on November 2, 2024, after 37 years.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, singing and writing songs, watching his family at the mud runs, and being “up on the hill” going for rides in Hank Bird 5. Jerry’s greatest pleasure was giving and helping others. He was a kindhearted soul who is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his loving family who are deeply saddened by his passing; brother, Glenn and wife Gloria; sister, Darlene Sterry; brother, Cecil and wife Loree; brother, Duke and wife Lorraine; sister, Sandra Coburn and husband Mike; sister, Elaine Whelpley and husband Mike; as well as 15 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Loren W. and Eldora T. Durrell; 2 infant siblings; paternal and maternal grandparents; fiancé, Wendy Fletcher; brother-in-law, Robin Sterry; and great-nephew, Brandyn M. Whelpley.
At Jerry’s request there will be a private family burial in the spring. The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at The Pierce House in Farmington, for their work and support in making Gerald feel at home and welcome.
