Obituary

Strong - Gerald N. Garston, born January 3, 1935, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2025, with his family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, January 3, 1935, he was the son of the late Irving and Dorothy (Baker) Garston. Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandy Garston, as well as his brother, Donald Garston. At the age of 17, Jerry joined the U.S. Navy, beginning a lifetime of explorations. He traveled the world. After returning home, he worked at Pequot Soda Co before taking over his father's business, Garston Sign Supplies, in 1969. In 1980, Jerry moved to Woodstock, CT, where he embraced his passion for hunting, nature, and the outdoors. He spent many years exploring the western mountains of Maine. Always outdoors, always discovering something new, Jerry lived life on his own terms and followed his dreams with conviction. Jerry is survived by his three children: Steve Garston and his wife, Virginia of Westerly, R.I., Dean Garston and his wife Erin of Boxford, Mass., and Donna Lawrence and her husband Nathan of Hastings, FL. He was a treasured grandfather to Brian Healis, Robin Christy, Karlie Ryan, Kerianne Smith, Garrett Garston, Alanna Garston, and Jonathan Garston, and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. Jerry spent the last 15 years of his life married to his loving wife, Alice Bebbington-Garston. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Byron Knowles and his wife Ali, and their son, Keith and Cynthia-Lin Knowles. Jerry and Alice shared a deep love for the mountains of Maine, a place that brought them both joy and peace. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2026. Arrangements are under the care of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
