Obituary

Avon, ME- Harland "Harlie" Edgar Haines, 66, passed away unexpectedly on August 7th, 20223 on the very property he worked and loved, his home on Avon Valley Road. Born on July 21st, 1957, to Marion and Lloyd Haines, Harlie was raised and continued to reside in his hometown of Avon. Harlie graduated from Mt. Abram High School in 1975 where he met his wife of 47 years, Julia Haines, at a Winter Carnival Dance. They were married in 1976 and had two children, Becky and Luke. In the years to come Harlie spent his working years as a body mechanic at Gray Ford in Farmington, Sanders in Phillips, and Knapp Bros. in Kingfield. He had a talent for body work, a passion to make things really shine, and a strong work ethic. Harlie believed if you were not 15 minutes early, you were 15 minutes late, and a job was not worth doing if you didn't do it right. For many years, Harlie owned and operated Phillips Hardware alongside his wife until they sold the business and retired. Harlie will be fondly remembered for his story telling, inappropriate poems, infamous sayings, and corny jokes. If you saw the grin and an eye twinkle, it was time to listen carefully and prepare for a good laugh! If he was picking on you, he liked you! Harlie had a love for old cars, singing and playing old country music, and telling stories of days gone by with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who shared that passion with those he loved the most. You could find Harlie sawing lumber on his land, cutting trees, digging holes, fishing hunting, or watching the wildlife alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren. His most treasured moments were those spent at family gatherings. Harlie loved good food, sweets, yeast rolls, and a cold glass of Crown. He was the heart and strength of his family, shared the best hugs, and loved with all his heart. He leaves behind with shattered hearts, his beloved dog Orville, his wife Julia, and their children Rebecca Phelps and husband Jamie, Luke Haines and wife Amanda, and all of grandpa's pride and joy's, his grandchildren, Hunter Warren, Kharlie Turner, Bailea and Blake Haines, Madison, Trevor and Brealynne Phelps, and his chosen grandchildren Kenyon Pillsbury and Charlotte and Opal Mitchell. Harlie is survived by his siblings Jackie Abbott and husband Clint, Sherry Pinkham and companion John Stinchfield, Wanda Decker and husband Skip, Timothy Haines and companion Cindy Rand, Cinder Haines and companion Jeff, Brian Haines and partner Bob Blum, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including one who was more like a brother, Casper Haines. Harlie was predeceased by his parents Marion Walker Haines and Lloyd Haines, siblings Steven Haines and Karen Haines, and his best pal Fred Howard. Arrangements are under the care of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service 488 Farmington Falls Rd, Farmington, ME 04938. There will be a good ole "Haine's" get together celebration at a later date.
