Obituary

James would come to enjoy hunting, fishing, camping at Cathedral Pines Campground in Eustis, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Starks – James W. Thayer, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2026, with family by his side. James was born in Middleborough, Massachusetts, on September 17, 1941, the son of Lewis and Dorothy (Travers) Thayer. He was employed by David Tyler driving truck and was also employed by E.L. Vining in Farmington for many years.

James and his wife, Elaine, attended church at New Hope Baptist Church. They were both baptized together at Sampson Pond in Carver, Massachusetts. James and Elaine moved to Maine in 1988, where James would come to enjoy hunting, fishing, camping at Cathedral Pines Campground in Eustis, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife, Elaine (Holmes) Thayer; his sons, Timothy Thayer, Christopher Thayer, Jimmy Thayer, and Johnny Thayer; his daughter, Joanne Thayer; his two brothers, Bruce Thayer and Brian Thayer; his sister, Florence Westagte; and his grandchildren, Olivia Thayer, Colby Thayer, Carter Thayer, and Noah Thayer.

There will be a celebration of life held on September 19, 2026, at 1 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 268 Perham Street, Farmington, Maine.
