Obituary

Strong - Jean A. Carlow, age 99, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 23, 2026. She was born May 11, 1926, in Lewiston, ME, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Dolbier) Huntington. Jean began her schooling at Blethen School in Phillips, ME and later attended school in Kingfield, ME, after moving with her family to the Dolbier Farm on Freeman Ridge. She earned her CNA certificate in 1983 and was known for her strong work ethic, working at both the former and current Franklin Memorial Hospital, as well as providing home health care to many in the local community. Jean enjoyed dancing, traveling with friends and family, and had a quick wit. She was a member of the Farmington Emblem Club #460 for over 31 years. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Nichols; her grandchildren, Robert Starbird, Lisa (Joe) Pinkham, Betty (Larry) Roy, Vicky Gilmore Nichols (Bryce Reed), James Smith, Fred Nichols, Maria (Sebastian) Lombardi, Liana Fellis, and Lindsey Nichols (Christopher Silva); 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren; She also leaves behind her beloved companions, her dog, Joy and cat, Tommy. She was predeceased by her parents; her children, Stephen, Judith, and Alan; her son-in-law, Victor Nichols; her grandchildren, Debbie, Sherry, and Richard; and her four siblings. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her special friend, Sandra Collins, and home caregiver, Bobbi Sue Harrington, along with many others, for the care and support they provided through the years. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to Strong Methodist Church, 8 Church Hill Road, Strong, ME 04983. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 pm., May 1, 2026, at Dan & Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. May 9, 2026, at Sunnyside Cemetery, 85 Carrabassett Road, Kingfield, followed by a celebration of life at the Forster Memorial Building, 14 South Main St., Strong.
