Farmington - Jean Whitney Dingley, age 94, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the Pierce House in Farmington, where she had resided for several months.
She was born in Skowhegan Maine on January 12, 1931, to Everett and Blanche (Sawyer) Whitney. She grew up in a loving and caring family with her parents, her sister Helen, and her brother Lawrence. After attending schools in Farmington and graduating from Farmington High School, she went on to graduate from Farmington State Teachers College.
On June 12, 1952, Jean married Frank Dingley, and they shared 60 years of marriage together. A son, Peter, was born in 1953 and a son, Jon, was born in 1955. The family spent many happy summers together at their camp on Clearwater Lake.
After her boys reached school age, Jean started her teaching career of over 20 years, mostly in the Skowhegan school system. During this time, she also helped raise Lori Thayer, who was the daughter of a friend.
After retirement, Jean and Frank spent winters in Florida and enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors. Jean was very close to her sister, Helen, and her family. In her later years after Frank died, Jean spent much time with her best friend, Audrey Bergeron. Jean will always be remembered for her love of children and her great cooking.
