Jay - John Roland Ranger Jr., age 77, passed away at his home in Jay on January 14th, 2025.
John was born in Wilton on June 20, 1947, the son of John Roland Ranger, Sr. and Lula (Dill) Allen. He attended Wilton schools and after graduation John enlisted in the US Navy, then went on to attend CMVTI where he became a first-class machinist.
He worked at Forster Manufacturing as well as International Paper. John also had many years of self-employment. He owned and operated Ranger 's Mobile Home Parks in Wilton, where he was known for hauling and setting mobile homes throughout the state. He owned and operated several pet stores over the years, sometimes juggling three jobs at a time, while also designing and building two of his own homes and raising his family. He enjoyed many years of over the road trucking before retiring in Tennessee. It was a blessing that he recently moved back to Maine to be closer to family where more memories were made, and stronger bonds were formed.
All his life John had an interest in automobiles. He rebuilt and restored many cars and antique trucks and was in the process of restoring a 1946 Ford pickup. John was relied upon for his knowledge of mechanics, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and landscaping. He was quick to offer his expertise in many areas. His opinion was valued whether it was asked for or not. John loved animals, especially his many dogs. He was a loving husband, supportive father and a proud grandfather. The security of his presence, his playful banter and heartfelt hugs will be missed beyond measure.
John is predeceased by his parents, John "Roland" Ranger Sr., Lula Allen, and his granddaughter, Danielle Ranger.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kendalyn Ranger; stepfather, Hamblin Allen; sons, John Ranger III (Katrina), Yates Kennedy (Cheri); daughter, Carey Jordan (Peter); grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, Jillian, Mackinnley, Abbey, Piper; and great grandson, Gabriel.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date, with an interment in the spring.
