New Sharon - Lauris M. Bailey born May 1,1934 passed away peacefully at his home in New Sharon on June 5, 2024, with his family by his side. Lauris was predeceased by his parents, Holmes and Gladys Bailey, his brother, H. Kenton Bailey, and his sister Clare (Bailey) Liwski.
Lauris is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlene Bailey. He is also survived by his sons, Daniel and wife Barbara of Winthrop, Andrew and his wife Tamara of New Sharon, Matthew and his wife Darlene of Farmington, and Dennis and his wife Tricia of Farmington. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Lauris was a veteran who served in the Air Force from 1954-1959.
Lauris was self-employed for many years with his own business which included field mowing, bush hogging, landscaping, carpentry, snowplowing, and of course he enjoyed plowing and harrowing many, many gardens for people all over the Farmington area for many years. Lauris also ran a lunch wagon from the late 1960's to the early 1970's, feeding crews at local businesses all over Farmington.
Lauris was an avid hunter and marksman and would often bag a nice buck each Fall. He won the chicken shoot at Philips Old Home Days on several occasions. Lauris loved to bird hunt and spent many years chasing partridge with his sons, his bird dog, and his favorite shotgun.
For those who remember the old Farmington Diner, he was a regular there for lunch where he loved to talk about the issues of the day with many of the other regular patrons.
He was a passionate conservationist and helped develop the curriculum for the school conservation program taught by the ASCS for many years.
There will be a private service at the family cemetery.
