Leland J. Bachelder Sr. of Avon, Me passed away from complications of dementia on Sunday, May 4th with his family by his side. He was born on Oct. 15, 1941 in Avon. The son of Walter J Bachelder and Vilda (Moody) Bachelder, he was one of fifteen siblings.
Leland married Dorothy Paradie in 1957 and they had two sons, after divorce, he married Lucretia Gilchrest in 1963 and they had one daughter. Leland worked at Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls before moving to Berwick and working at PNSY until his retirement. His work at PNSY took him to shipyards in San Diego, Hawaii and Scotland, repairing submarines.
His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. After Lucretia passed away in 2019, he returned to Avon.
Leland leaves behind his sons, Roger (Norine) Paradie and Leland J. Bachelder Jr. all of Turner, daughter Rhonda Bachelder (companion Guy Blanchard) of Berwick, grandchildren, Michele Bachelder (companion Devin Corliss), Ryan Bachelder, Angela (Shawn) Butler, all of Turner and Jennifer (Nicholas) Robitaille of Lisbon, great grandchildren, Harley Bachelder, Cameron Butler and Chloe Butler, all of Turner. He is also survived by his siblings, Glenis Jackson of Avon, Christine Hafford of Monmouth, Earl (Janice) Bachelder of Friendship, Deana Hewins of Leeds, Evelyn Ray of Sabattus, Dennis (Cheryl) Bachelder of Pembroke and Steve (Lisa) Bachelder of Leeds, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Lucretia, daughter in law, Bambi Bachelder of Turner and his siblings, Walter R Bachelder, George Bachelder, Irene Hafford, Leonard Bachelder, Noreen S. Chamberlain, Dalon Bachelder and Tony Bachelder. He was also predeceased by two great granddaughters, Tylee and Kacey Hobbs.
The family would also like to thank his sister Glenis Jackson of Avon, Sherry Callahan of Salem and Sharon Jones of Phillips for the care and comfort they provided during his illness.

A graveside service will be held at Byron Annex Cemetery on Reeds Mills Road in Phillips on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 am.
