Scarborough - Mahlon Murray McMullen, 90, of Scarborough, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 29, 1936, in Farmington, Maine, the son of Murray and Dorothy (Smith) McMullen.
Mahlon grew up in Kingfield and graduated from Kingfield High School in 1954. It was there he met the love of his life, Nancy (Howard) McMullen. They married in 1956 and shared seventy wonderful years together, raising three children.
After high school, Mahlon studied Machine Tool Technology at Saco Lowell Manufacturing. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and served in Germany until 1961. Upon returning home, he worked as a machinist, foreman, supervisor, and inspector at Maremont Corp., W.H. Nichols, Lund Manufacturing, and Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1998.
Mahlon built his family home in Scarborough, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He cherished summers at Hancock Pond, keeping his camp in pristine condition and tending to every detail. He was happiest outdoors — mowing lawns, plowing snow, and caring for his properties with pride.
A gifted craftsman, Mahlon not only built his own home but helped each of his children build theirs. He was known for his quiet strength, dedication, and love of family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy (Howard) McMullen, his sons Michael (Rose) McMullen of Scarborough, Jon (Vickie) of Scarborough, Daughter Michele (Dan) Marean of Pompano Beach, FL. He has five grandchildren: Dan, Ryan, Jason, Jessie and Julie, and five great grandchildren: Cora, Jameson, Milo, Sullivan, and Weston.
No funeral will be held at his request. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any donations should be sent to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) in Mahlon's name.
Arrangements are under the care of Dan & Scott's Cremation and Funeral Services at 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine, 04938, where photos, memories and condolences may be shared at www.dsfuneral.com
