Obituary

PHILLIPS- Marie (Wing) Bubier, 84, of Phillips, Maine, passed away peacefully at her home on Pinkham Hill on February 4th, 2026. Marie was born on July 8, 1941, in Norridgewock, the daughter of Merton Wing and Irene Ladd. She grew up at her father's store, was educated in the one-room schoolhouse in Madrid, and then went to high school in Phillips, where she was the proud recipient of the Betty Crocker Search for the All-American Homemaker of Tomorrow Award. During her teenage years, she worked cleaning camps at Saddleback Mountain Lodge. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Bubier, in 1960, in the Phillips Methodist Church, and lived in Phillips until moving to Madison, Durham, and ultimately Middlefield, Connecticut. There she established deep roots in the local community at Lake Beseck and became an institution at the Middlefield Federated Church, teaching Sunday School to 3- and 4-year-olds for 22 years. Her home was always open to anyone looking for an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on. Of course, the coffee was always flowing. Whatever adventure you were on in life, Marie was also your biggest cheerleader! She worked hard to lead a clean, active lifestyle, dedicated to healthy eating as an early, nearly lifelong follower of Weight Watchers. She served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Local Homemakers club. For decades, she provided childcare to numerous local families and friends, loving them all as if they were her own. She was a member and the treasurer of the Reeds Mills Sewing Circle, which hosted regular sewing sessions and parties at her house. She loved animals, especially cats, and feeding and watching the birds. She was skilled at knitting, crocheting, quilling, candle wicking, and numerous other crafts. She took up sewing and quilting in her retirement. Marie will be remembered for her strong faith and commitment to Jesus, as a light upon the hill. She was paralyzed in 2019 in an automobile accident and spent over 100 days in rehabilitation at Russell Park in Lewiston, where she never spent a night alone, always accompanied by friends and family, especially Kathy Tripp, who spent many nights by her side. After discharge, she remained homebound for the past 6 ½ years. She persevered through this difficult time due to the relentless support of her caregivers, including Claudia Boucher, Lisa Bubier, Paul Bubier and Paula Callahan. Throughout this time, she continued to find great meaning in teaching the Gospel through her life and words to all whom she encountered. She is survived by her husband, Paul of Phillips; her son, David Bubier, and his wife, Angel of Strong; her daughter, Paula Callahan, and her husband, Sean of Massachusetts; and her son, Jason, and his wife, Diana Ippoliti of Ellsworth. She has six grandchildren, Johnathon, Sean, Noah, Gavin, Sophia and Cassie, and many, many special nieces, nephews, and friends. A service will be held in the spring. She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel and Theodore (Ted) Wing; and grandson, Dustin Bubier. A graveside service honoring Marie will be held, Saturday May 30, 2026, at 2:00 pm, located at the Bubier Cemetery, 62 Pinkham Hill Road, Phillips, Maine.
