Obituary

Stratton – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Mary Theresa Barker, on January 31, 2026, peacefully with family by her side. Mary was born on March 26, 1931, in Woburn Canada to Alfred Cyr and Rose Alma Desautells. When Mary was a child, her family moved to the U.S. to a home in Stratton, Maine and later became naturalized as U.S. citizen. During her time in Stratton, Mary worked at Barker's Inn in Eustis and met the love of her life, Clarence Barker. They spent seventy-five years together and seventy-two years married, before Clarence passed away in November of 2023. Mary gave birth to five children with Clarence: Norman Barker, Ronald Barker, James Barker, Daniel Barker, and Kathy Ann Barker. Mary was also close with her stepson, William Austin and later his wife, Barbara Austin. Mary was part of the Lion's Club and had various jobs throughout her life. She worked at a daycare on Sugarloaf, at Winter Mill in Kingfield and Foster Mill in Stratton. Her most recent job before retiring was working at Stratton Biomass in the scale house. Mary enjoyed many hobbies in her spare time which included boating, camping, riding bike, blueberry picking, barbecues, puzzles, quilting and playing beano with her friends. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and keeping up with her French language. Mary and Clarence enjoyed traveling on vacations together. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Clarence Barker; sons, Norman Barker, William Austin and his wife Barbara Austin; and her daughter; Kathy Ann Barker. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Barker and his significant other, Margaret, James Barker and Daniel Barker; grandson, Anthony Barker and wife Mary and their children, Aiden, Adam and Avery; grandson, Kevin Barker and wife Heidi and Kevin's sons, Caleb and Jacob Barker; granddaughter, Charlotte Keaten and husband Paul along with their children, Aubrieann and Brennan Keaten; granddaughters, Savannah and Dawn Barker; along with many other grand's and great's. Those who knew Mary and were close know that she had a big caring heart and left many impressions and memories we all hold close and dear to our hearts. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. There will be a service for Mary in Eustis in the spring.
