Farmington- Mary Lillian Purington-Bailey took her final ride to heaven on October 3, 2023, at the age of 72 with family by her side. She was born October 16, 1950, the daughter of Marie E. (Purington) Bailey and Elwood D. Bailey, growing up in Gardiner enjoying time with her family and friends. She attended Gardiner Area High School and the University of Maine at Augusta and began her career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Mary's first job was at Healthtex, where she made children's clothing with her best friend of 65 years, Betty. The two of them were inseparable throughout the years and had many stories and many secrets that will always be theirs. A self-described hippie with hair so red to match her fiery personality, Mary once said "the world made rules for her to break" as she was a carefree spirit who delighted in meeting new friends, many of them through a common interest of motorcycle riding as she was a member of the Untied Bikers of Maine. She always made friends wherever she went and had an amazing last motorcycle ride with her new friends shortly before she departed the earth. When asked what words family and friends would use to describe Mary, true friend and loving woman were the top answers. Some of her many interests were gardening, as well as a fondness for the "natural flower", camping, dancing, motorcycle riding, avid animal lover, and just plain having fun with friends and family. She left her mark on this world and her smile will always be in everyone's heart.
