Farmington - Michael LeBlanc, age 78, passed away after a short but fierce battle with lung cancer on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Orchard Park in Farmington, Maine. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Amy; son, Andy LeBlanc of Canaan; daughter, Mara Hodgkin of Temple; and grandchildren, Silas Brown, Aaron LeBlanc, Abby LeBlanc, Jasper Hodgkin, Zion Hodgkin, and Temple Miller-Hodgkin. He is also survived by his sister, Gaye Dutcher of Minnesota.

Mike was born in Oklahoma but grew up in Maine. As a child, he lived and went to school in several communities, including Presque Isle, Gardiner, and Augusta. He graduated as valedictorian from Cony High School in 1966.

He attended New York University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1970. He went on to have a 45-year career as a software engineer. He worked with Sky Computers for many years, as well as Wang Laboratories and Code Sorcery, before semi-retiring as a consultant in 2005.

Mike was a quiet, steady presence and a man of few words, but when he did chime in, he often had a witty, perfectly timed one-liner that brought lightness and laughter to the room.

He loved being a grandpa and could easily be convinced to toss a frisbee, make some paper airplanes, or play a game of cribbage. The grandkids knew how much knowledge he had about computers and technology and would often seek him out for advice or help setting up a game.

Mike enjoyed reading, cooking, politics, international travel, and golf. He always appreciated life’s simple pleasures, such as beautiful sunrises, everyday routines, and good homegrown meals. He would often be found perched on his stool in the kitchen, engrossed in a book and sipping a beer, “with at least the hint of a smile, amused about something or other.”

One friend described Mike as “the calm at the center of the whirlwind of your life.” Another remembered him simply as “such a solid rock.” Those words capture the way so many people experienced him. He was a steady presence whose calm competence made life easier for everyone around him.
