Rockwood – Nancy Averill Ayer, age 84, passed away on August 14, 2026. Nancy was born in Farmington, Maine on July 1, 1942, the daughter of Merritt and Helen (Voter) Averill. She grew up attending school in Farmington and in 1961, married Donald T. Ayer and together they started raising a family in Temple, Maine.

Nancy was a “mom extraordinaire”, raising four children, Carey, Crystal, Candace and Cory. In the early 1980’s, the family moved from the Temple to the Ayer family home in Rockwood. Nancy worked at the Rockwood Community School, Greenville Consolidated School, and at the Moosehead Historical Society. After retiring from the school, she continued to work for the Moosehead Historical Society until the spring.

“Mom, Grammie, Auntie, Nancy” always had a genuine interest in each person she met. She was the number one cheerleader and the voice of reason. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by so many.
