On November 1, 2024, our family turned the page and entered a new chapter in our book of life. This one will be missing one most important character . . . our mom, grandmother, and sister, Norma C. Welch.
Norma was born Jan. 10th, 1936, to Norman C. and Doris Gordon Stevens. She grew up on a farm in Fayette, ME. and graduated near the top of her class from Kents Hill, class of 1954. On Dec. 4, of '54, she married Earlen Welch. They were married for 30 years until his passing in 1984. Together, in Chesterville, they raised 6 rambunctious children who were fortunate that Norma chose to be a stay-at-home mom throughout their lives.
After Earlen's passing, she found a true friend in Ormond "Jr." Gross who was widowed and lived up the road. She cooked and they ate dinner together almost every evening and enjoyed each other's company for better than 25 years. Jr. passed in 2018.
She was a great cook, knew how to live frugally, and enjoyed a simple life. She loved camping, fishing, Chinese food, extra-crispy chicken, flowers, and her Soap Operas (it was clear she didn't want interruptions or appreciate any phone calls in the afternoon during what she deemed, "her stories").
Norma is survived by her children, Cheryl Mills (Scott) of Hartford, Michael Welch Sr. (Cheryl) of New Sharon, Debra Gray (David) of Chesterville, Gary Welch, of Chesterville, Stephen Welch (Laurie) of Chesterville, Andrew Welch (Jamie) of New Vineyard and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Errol Stevens (Beverly), of Fayette.
Her memory will continue to shine though each of us. . .
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the care she received from many wonderful, caring staff at Edgewood Living and Rehabilitation and Living Center and Andwell Hospice.
A simple family graveside service will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, in Livermore Falls.
Arrangements are under the care of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
