Obituary

Oquossoc – H Paul Reynolds, 64, of Oquossoc, Maine, passed away on November 14, 2024, after a fast and fierce battle with brain cancer, with his loving family by his side. Born on May 10, 1960, in Ridgewood, NJ., he was a devoted husband to Laura (Summers) Reynolds, a loving father to Parker (Steven) Warner and Colin (Rebecca) Reynolds, and a proud grandfather. Paul spent his childhood years in New Jersey and Michigan. His summers on the shore cultivated his love for the water. Paul attended Montclair High School where he played hockey and lacrosse and developed dozens of lifelong friendships. Paul graduated in 1983 from St. Lawrence University where he met the love of his life, Laura. They were married in 1986 and spent their early marriage living in New Jersey. Paul's affinity for St. Lawrence and the memories and friends made there led him to take a position later in life as the university's Director of Major Gifts, a role that helped him ensure future generations had access to the same wonderful experiences and education that so enriched Paul's life. After college, Paul worked as an Equity Trader for College Retirement Equity Fund (CREF) and several other firms in New York City. Paul and Laura moved to Boston where he worked for Thomson Financial Services before becoming one of the founding members of State Street Brokerage. Paul built a successful portfolio transition product, developed the directed brokerage business and served as a member of the board of directors of State Street Brokerage. In 1995 Paul and his family moved to Tacoma, WA where he joined the Frank Russell Company (Russell Investments) as director of Trading, Russell Implementation Services. When he retired in 2007, he was Managing Director of Russell, President and CEO of Russell Trust Company, Russell Capital and Russell Implementation Services. Paul's main passions were his family and community. In Tacoma, he served on the boards of trustees for the International Museum of Glass and Charles Wright Academy. Paul and Laura chose to move to Oquossoc Maine in 2013, a place Paul fell in love with when he first visited with the Summers family in 1982. There he continued to serve his community on the board for Rangeley Lakes Regional School and Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust (RLHT). While serving as President of RLHT, Paul spearheaded a highly successful effort to conserve thousands of additional acres in the cherished Rangeley region. In an effort to enhance the Oquossoc-Rangeley community, he and Laura envisioned, built, and ran a well-known and beloved restaurant, Portage Tap House. Those that knew Paul will remember him for his larger-than-life presence. His generosity, kindness, humor and intelligence were contagious. Paul's expansive list of hobbies and interests were evidence of a life well-lived. He found excitement in the driver's seat, whether it was flying his single-engine plane, behind the wheels of his classic cars, or cruising his boat around any body of water. He was a wine enthusiast who also loved local craft beer or a smooth single malt. He created a sense of home wherever he went, whether it was walking with Laura and his dogs on a quiet afternoon, or skiing with his kids abroad. He would open his kitchen to everyone around for an evening of homemade pizza and could close down a party after a night of dancing on elevated surfaces. A Grateful Dead song was always a ballad of choice. Whether you were his colleague or neighbor, acquaintance or close friend, with Paul you were family. He is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Parker Warner and husband Steven of Philadelphia, PA., and Colin Reynolds and wife Rebecca of Tacoma, WA; grandson, Hutchinson Warner; mother, Lila Irish Reynolds; and sister, Tricia and husband Rich Kosowsky of Weston, MA. He also leaves behind his extended family and many friends who he felt were family. A celebration of life will be held December 14th at 2PM at Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley, Maine. All are invited to a reception immediately following at Portage Tap House. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Paul's name to Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust www.rlht.org or Rangeley Health and Wellness www.rrhwp.org Arrangements are under the care of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, Maine, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
