West Farmington - On Saturday August 31 between 2:15-2:30pm Penny Addie Maire Brackett of West Farmington, passed away after having a sudden cardiac arrest on Wednesday the 28th. Penny, age 65, passed away at Maine Medical Center with her daughter Agnes and grandmother-in-law Ellie Long by her side. She went to the Lord in peace. Penny was born January 4th in Lyons, New York, to parents, Leo James Deon Sr. and Charlotte Jean Deon (Badgerly).
Penny attended schools in New York and Maine. She graduated from Mt. Blue High School and later attended College at the University of Arizona online. During her youth she worked as a cook at numerous nursing homes including Edgewood and Orchard Park. She then worked for Gaylord Farms for the Yetton family for thirty years. In her retirement she worked for Farmington Medical Supply. She was a very dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Farmington.
Penny married Arthur Lyndon Brackett on July 14, 1984, at Henderson Memorial Church. They had two children: James Robert Brackett and Agnes Gaylyn Brackett. Penny had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. She loved to surround herself with her animals, she had two dogs, three cats and a guinea pig. Penny had led a 4-H dog group for the Franklin County area. She enjoyed dedicating her life to better the life of others and broadening their horizons. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She leaves behind quite the collection of cookbooks. Penny had many close friends all of whom she loved dearly. They all helped make her feel loved and appreciated. She had such a big heart. One of her greatest loves was her granddaughter Autumn Rose Barden. She would devote herself to Autumn every chance she could. No smile was as big as the ones she had on the days she got to spend with her granddaughter and daughter.
She was predeceased by her father, Leo James Deon Sr. (1939-2021); mother, Charlotte Jean Deon (Badgerly) (dates unknown); and her husband, Arthur Lyndon Brackett (June 22, 1944- January 26, 2006).
Penny is survived by her stepmother, Annet Deon; brothe,r Leon James Deon Jr.; sister-in-law, Chris Deon; niece, Hanna Deon; brother, Billy Deon; nephew, Garett Deon; niece, Evelyn Deon; sister, Roxanne DeBello; brother-in-law, Tony DeBello; nephew, Angelo DeBello; niece, Angel Conley; niece, Korian Draper; niece, Tonya Ruiz; foster mother, Linda Corson; foster sister, Donna Hinkley; foster brother-in-law, Eric Hinkley; foster niece, Letita Merrill; nephew-in-law, Chad Merrill; great nephew, Jakob Merrill; great nephew, Flint Merrill; foster niece, Virgina Healey; great nephew, Romeo Healey; great nephew, Dana Healey; foster brother, Peter Corson; foster sister-in-law, Lois Corson; foster niece, Victoria Corson; great nephew, Luk White; great nephew, Blair White; great niece, Mea White; great nephew, Malachai Richardson; foster niece, Aricka Corson. And many friends all of whom she loved, and we would love to list but the number is too great, and we don't anyone unmentioned to feel left out. You all were loved by my mother and each of you knows who you are.
The funeral is to be held on Saturday September 28th at The Church of Latter-Day Saints, 141 Perham Heights Dr, Farmington Maine at 10:00am. Light refreshment to follow.
Penny's daughter would like to thank the many nurses and doctors at Maine Medical Center-Portland for doing all they could in hopes of saving her mother. A special thanks goes to the unnamed nurse who washed and braided her mother's hair as well as made a special memento to hold on to on her mother's final day. Another special thanks goes out to Ellie Long for being there to hold not only Penny's hand but Agnes' in her mother's final moments.
