East Wilton - Raymond Anthony DeSandre passed away early on the 10th of May 2025, at his home, at the age of 94.
Ray was born on the 13th of February 1931 in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey to John and Elizabeth DeSandre. After graduating two years early from high school, he went to a community college for two years and then served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He finished his education at the University of Maine at Orono. Out of college he worked as a fisheries biologist in Machias where he met and married Ethelyn Sprague. They moved to Strong Maine where he worked for Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Ray started as a Biologist and retired as the Regional Biologist.
Ray was an accomplished woodworker, cook, and gardener. He finished his last violin at age 93. It was a good day if he could spend time in his shop or garden.
Ray cared very deeply for his sister, Evelyn Sabean; five children, John, Anthony (Tony), Teresa, Maria, and Martha (Mardy); his 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews. He was known for his quiet inner strength, quick wit, and depth of knowledge.
There will be a graveside service on 23 May 2025, at the Strong Village Cemetery, at 10 am.
Arrangements are under the care of Dan & Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
