Farmington- Richard A. Russell Jr.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Russell, age 71, of Atkinson, NH. Born in Farmington, Maine, on November 18th, 1954, Rick passed away peacefully at the Andwell Hospice House on December 21st, 2025. A man of faith, kindness and caring for others, he had an impact on many lives with his thoughtful and generous spirit. He had a love of family and friends, and a deep faith that was a blessing to all he touched.
Rick grew up in Farmington, Maine, attended Mt. Blue High School, graduating in 1973 and went on to study at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn, Maine, then to the University of Maine at Orono where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. His long professional career began in Agusta, Maine, with the United States Geology Survey then the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. After moving to the Plaistow, New Hampshire region, Rick worked with Computer Vision of Bedford, Massachusetts, and then a long tenure as a contractor with the United States Department of Transportation out of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Rick was talented at baseball and softball, playing on several teams into his early adult life. He was also a skilled woodworker crafting many things for friends and family. He was an avid photographer and historian. Rick's passion was the work he did for his church where he managed all areas of video and data systems for worship and related ministry. He led a team of creative and technically minded volunteers guiding them as they used their talents and abilities for the church ministries. Rick was creative and innovative as he tried new things always with the goal of being a blessing to others and enhancing the ministries of the church. He loved his church family giving his time, his talent and his resources wherever needed.
Rick was predeceased by his dad, Richard A. Russell Sr. and is survived by his two sons David Russell of Durham, New Hampshire, James Russell and partner Makala of Methuen, Massachusetts and their mother Terri Russell. He is also survived by his mother, Ramona Russell of Wilton, Maine, sisters Karen Russell, Kris Pottle and her husband Jeff, Kathy Wells and her husband Roger along with his brother Steven Russell and his wife Gladys. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at1pm at The Rock Church, 90 Newton Road, Plaistow, New Hampshire. There will also be a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington, Maine in the Spring of 2026.
