He served for 40 years on the force.

Chesterville – Robert H. B. Cox, 95, of Chesterville, Maine, passed at home with family by his side on September 28, 2026.

Robert was born on March 1, 1931, in Portland, Maine to Herbert H. Cox and Gladys M. (Bishop) Cox. He attended several schools in Maine and Florida. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and retired in 1969. Upon retirement, he and his family moved back to Maine and settled down in Chesterville.

Robert was employed by Franklin Memorial Hospital as their credit manager from 1970 to 1977. He also worked as constable and fence viewer for the town of Chesterville from 1971 to 1994. In 1977, he was appointed as a deputy by Sheriff Kenneth French to the Franklin County Sheriffs Office; he served for 40 years on the force.

On June 6, 1954, Robert married Mabel B. Lane in Augusta, Maine, and together they shared 72 wonderful years. They raised two children, Laurence Cox of Florida and Darlene Pacheco of Maine.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling and spending time with his family.

Robert was a 50+ years member of the Farmington Elks Lodge # 2430 and a brother for 50+ years of the Wilton Masonic Lodge # 156 A.F & A.M. He was also a member of the Farmington American Legion Post # 28.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mabel Cox; children, Larry Cox and wife Michelle, and Darlene Pacheco and life partner Ted; his five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Gladys Cox; and one brother, Herbert Cox Jr.

A funeral service with an Elks Lodge presentation honoring Robert will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 4:00 pm with refreshments to follow, located at Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, Maine.

A private burial will take place at a later date at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery located in Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the local food pantry and the local heating assistance program.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers from Visiting Angels and Gentevia Hospice for their compassion and excellent care.
