Chesterville – Robert “Bob” Lee Millay, age 86, passed away on August 6, 2026, at Maine Medical Center after a short illness. Robert was born in North New Portland, Maine, on October 3, 1939, the son of Donald and Leila Millay.
Bob was a long-time resident of Maine. He graduated with a Bachelor’s, and later a Masters, from University of Maine; both degrees were in education. He worked as a long-time teacher and principal for the SAD# 36 Livermore Falls School District, more specifically the Livermore Elementary School and the Livermore Falls Middle School. Bob was a member of the Masons Grand Lodge of Maine, the Elks Lodge, and a staunch Republican.
He was the classic outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping and held lifetime licenses in all three. He raised many fine labrador retrievers, who also loved to hunt. Bob also enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. Bob was an avid reader and gatherer of poems to recite at will. He was a masterful gardener growing beautiful tomatoes, plentiful cucumbers, and many types of squash. He loved to share his produce, as well as scuttlebutt, with everyone along his weekly dooryard visit route. Bob was a man of solid and strong convictions, and he shared those with everyone he met.
He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Leila; and his brother, Donald Jr.. He is survived by his long-time companion, Carol Millay (Chesterville); and his daughter, Stephanie Millay (Farmington); his nephews, Sean Millay (Arizona) and Cameron Millay (Kansas); and grand nephews. Other family members include: Leanne (Mann) Condon and husband Robert (Farmington), Rebecca Mann (Berwick), and Eric Mann (Brandon, Florida); seven step grandchildren and their spouses; and six great- grandchildren, with one due in September. He also leaves many friends, hunting/fishing companions, dear neighbors, and loads of memories.
