Eustis – Stanley Bruce Chenoweth, age 92, passed away on June 27, 2026, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn Maine. He had resided at Woodlands Memory Care in Farmington since January of 2025. Stanley loved his room, his bed, the view of the gardens from his window, the many activities, the staff, and his fellow residents.

Stanley was born in Newton Massachusetts on February 23, 1934, the first child of Edward Emerson Chenoweth and Thelma (Stanley) Chenoweth. He grew up in Waban Massachusetts and then moved with his family to Skowhegan Maine when he was a junior in high school. Upon graduating he joined the US Navy and for four years he was a radioman on P2V Neptunes, patrolling the North Atlantic. After Stanley was discharged from the service, he returned to Skowhegan where he worked in the woolen mill for one summer, then decided he definitely wanted more education under his belt. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, class of 1960, with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management and from the Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography in 1963 with a master’s degree in biological oceanography. In November of 1962, Stanley accepted a job at the US Bureau of Commercial Fisheries laboratory in Boothbay Harbor Maine. It was there he met his future wife, Jean, who was already working there. They were married on July 3, 1963, and were married for almost 63 years. When the federal laboratory closed in 1973, he did consulting work for TRIGOM (The Research Institute of the Gulf of Maine). Then worked for a time for the New England Fisheries Management Council, until accepting a job with the Maine Department of Marine Resources, from which he retired in 1996.

In Stanley’s retirement he enjoyed gardening and working with The Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library until he and Jean moved to Eustis in 2004. While in Eustis he joined the Masons and is a past master of Mt. Bigelow Lodge #202. He was also a member of the Stratton-Eustis Lions Club.

Stanley is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Martha Wilson of St. Robert MO; and his daughter, Catherine Chenoweth of Eustis and NYC. . He is survived by his wife, Jean of Eustis; his sister, Priscilla Blakeman of Portland MI; his brother, Roger Chenoweth of St. Robert MO; along with many nieces and nephews.

Bigelow Lodge #202, PO Box 541, Stratton Maine 04982.

There will be a Masonic service scheduled at a later date ( probably early October ) and Stanley’s ashes will be scattered on the property where he and Jean lived, located at 96 Flagstaff Road, Eustis Maine.
