Wilton, Maine 1963-2024 Stephen L. Sawtelle, 60, died March 28th, 2024 at the Hospice House in Auburn from complications of diabetes. Born in Farmington on May 9, 1963, the son of Rodney and Frances (Riggs) Sawtelle. He attended Wilton schools and graduated from Mt. Blue High School. Stephen was well known in the community as working at his father's garage - Rod Sawtelles Garage in North Jay. He still worked as a heavy duty mechanic until the last few years when he worked as a heavy equipment operator. Stephen was a member of several local Fire Departments starting in Wilton, Jay and Temple. He was a year shy of being a 50-year volunteer with the industry. He enjoyed camping, four wheeling, jeeping, and NASCAR. He was predeceased by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his daughter Brittney McElhaney and her husband Kevan and their 5 children as well as his son Marc Cochran and his wife Lindsey and their 2 sons. A cousin Peter Sawtelle and many friends. The family wants to thank those who took the time these past six months for their love and their care. There will be a remembrance ceremony for Stephen on April 27th at The Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Wilton starting at 11am.
