Jay - Susan Quann Farrington, 79, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, on January 23, 1946, Susie, as she was known back then, grew up in Norwood, MA and graduated from Marian High School, in 1963. A cheerleader, a member of many clubs, and a true social butterfly, she carried her warm, friendly spirit with her throughout her life.
After high school, Susan attended Peabody Business School and later worked for Jordan Marsh. In November of 1975, she became a proud "Mainer", when she and her first husband moved with their daughters to Warren, where she raised her family. One of her favorite stories to share was of the day their five baby pigs escaped, and she found herself on the side of Route 1, in a dress, chasing them with a smelt net while amused tourists snapped photos.
In 1989, Susan met James Farrington at a dance. They married in 1994. Together they made their home in Jay, where they built a life filled with companionship and steady, devoted love. In 2019, Susan's heart was made whole when she was reunited with her daughter, Jean; an experience she cherished deeply. In the latter part of her career, Susan worked in the office at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and in past years was an avid clogger, but nothing meant more to her than visits from her grandchildren. She followed their sporting events and live music performances with pride and enthusiasm. At her home, the grand children learned to tie their shoes, ride a bike without training wheels, zoom around on the four-wheeler, listen to "oldies" music and play with the baby goats she raised. Silly as it may sound to others, one of their favorite meals with her was sloppy joe pizza. She always had shaved ham ready for sandwiches, supplies for a "fluff-a-nutter" and some kind of cookie for a snack. Halloween visits were especially dear to her; she loved seeing the great-grandchildren arrive in costume year after year.
Susan was predeceased by her mother, Kathlyn Quann Wilmarth; her father, Edward Quann; and her brothers-in-law, Arthur Sinclair and Richard Smith.
She is survived by her husband, James Farrington of Wilton; her daughters, Jean Ruiz (Manny) of Henderson, NV, Pamela Lewis Barker of Thomaston, Margaret "Jimi" Hunt (Eric) of Waldoboro, and Patricia Anderson (Rick Miller) of Jay; stepsons, James Farrington of Livermore Falls, John Farrington of Wilton, and Jeffrey Farrington of Jay; stepdaughter, Cathy Melville (Michael) of Farmington; her beloved grandchildren, Jessica DeCastro (Matt), Daniel Moore (Veronica), Sean Moore (Kassie), Kevin Moore (Sara), Sara Masters (Sam), Caroline Bell (Mike), Ashley Hunt, Danielle Hunt, Brandon Ruiz (Keely), Brittany Magdelano (Austin), Nate Ruiz (Nicole), Brandon Melville, and Courtney Melville; many great-grandchildren who brought enormous joy to her life; also her sisters, Elizabeth "Betti" Sinclair of NH, Janet Smith of MA, Kathleen Gura (David) of KS, Gemma Meehan (Daniel) of NH, Faith Wilmarth of TX; brother-in-law, John Farrington, of Wilton; and sister-in-law, Janice Doak of Wilton.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
