Canton - Victor Richard was born on June 15, 1938, in Andover, Maine, to James Joseph Richard and Evangeline Dube Richard.
Victor married Barbara Berry on August 31, 1969, and together they built a life centered around family and shared adventures. Barbara preceded Victor in death on April 16, 2022.
Victor began his working career at the Rumford Paper Mill, working alongside his father. He later went on to operate a garage with his brothers at Rays Sunoco. Victor and Barbara also drove cab for Victor’s mother at Royal Cab before eventually settling in Peru, where they purchased their home. Victor later worked as head custodian for the Peru school before returning to the paper mill, where he continued working until his retirement.
Outside of work, Victor and Barbara shared a love of bluegrass music and spent many happy years following music festivals together. They also treasured camping trips and time spent with family, creating memories that would last for generations.
Their home was a special place for family and friends to gather, whether for holidays, birthdays, or simply to spend time together. Friends and family visited often, as their door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. These gatherings and family traditions were a special part of the memories Victor and Barbara created with their loved ones.
Victor is survived by his daughters, Shelley Bronish and her husband, Ed Bronish, April Dragoon and her husband, Mike Dragoon, Tammy Holmes and her husband, Mark Holmes; and his son, Dale Richard and his wife, Kay Richard,
Victor leaves behind five grandchildren: Barbii Schenks and her husband, Matt; Derek Richards and his wife, Morghan; Angelo Knox; Ashley Holmes; and Emily Holmes. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Madison and Everett.
Please join us at his celebration of life on November 28, 2026, 2 pm at the Rumford American Legion Hall, 184 Congress St Rumford.
